Understanding and Overcoming Burnout: A Guide for Women:

“I believe when you put any women in any equation, the equation gets better.” - Shelley Zalis

Have you ever noticed that feel completely at work week to week?

Some weeks, so excited to go to networking events, and other weeks wanting re-coop in the office sorting out your admin? In today's fast-paced world, burnout has become increasingly common, particularly among women who often juggle multiple roles and responsibilities. How do you incorporate your second clock in the corporate culture? It’s not your fault.

The Typical work day is tailored to the male genetic rhythm.

Let's explore some effective strategies to recognise and combat burnout. Does this sound like you?

  • “There aren’t enough hours in the day”
  • “I feel frazzled”
  • “Im SO tired”
  • “I don’t have enough time for my relationships”
  • “Sometimes it’s hard to focus”
  • “My schedule is so overwhelming”
  • “I don’t have enough energy to do it all
  • “My anxiety so high"

Our conditioning is that we are just meant to suffer with period problems and feeling exhausted constantly. But in this cycle, you are sacrificing your well-being as a result of your extra work and you will be LESS productive, turning in mediocre work. WORSE... you wear down your immune system because of this non-stop productivity, always on culture.

1. Recognise the Signs

Burnout isn't just feeling tired. Watch for symptoms like:

  • Persistent exhaustion, even after rest
  • Decreased motivation and productivity
  • Emotional detachment from work and relationships
  • Physical symptoms like headaches or insomnia

The problem isn’t a lack of time. Ignoring your second clock is draining your energy. The secret to achieving more is actually doing less. its almost a radical thought in our society, which forces the more-better philosophy down our collective throats. The idea of less can make us feel guilty and counter productive. But it’s actually backed by science. Let’s let go of these old limiting patterns TOGETHER.

2. Set Boundaries

Creating healthy boundaries is crucial for preventing burnout:

  • Learn to say "no" to additional commitments
  • Establish work-life balance
  • Create designated "me time" in your schedule as you would a meeting. Both are just as important

The truth: hormonal changes play a role in our communication, creativity, energy and productivity at work.

Let’s learn to work WITH our BODIES not AGAINST:

3. Prioritise Self-Care, Especially Around Your Luteal Phase

Bio-hack like a GIRL BOSS! Remember, you can do ANYTHING in ANY phase. But if you need to be over active during your Luteal Phase, supplement lots of self-care in to keep your hormones in check.

Self-care isn't selfish - it's essential:

  • Regular exercise and proper nutrition
  • Adequate sleep and rest
  • Mindfulness and meditation practices
  • Remove non essential tasks from your luteal phase that might cause more stress and plan a self-care task each day needed to compensate for work that’s not in sync with your cycle.

4. Build Support Systems

Don't try to handle everything alone:

  • Connect with other women who understand your challenges
  • Seek professional help when needed
  • Find communities outside of work to lean on - that’s what we’re for! Check out our monthly events
  • It’s okay to ask for help! - Delegate tasks at work and home

5. Practice Stress Management

Our cortisol (stress hormone) is naturally higher during our luteal and menstrual phase, equipping us to protect our potential pregnancy. Which can make us feel more intune or stressed about things.

Develop healthy coping mechanisms:

  • Regular breaks throughout the day - every 55-90 mins
  • Daily Affirmations - Stack the Hack with our products, all designed with an affirmation ritual
  • Gratitude
  • Prayer
  • Breathing exercises
  • Take supplements like our Hormone Check Drops and use Topical spot treatments like Crystal Clear Spot Treatment to manage PMS symptoms. 91% of clients have said their PMS, PMDD and menopausal symptoms reduced when taking our drops 😊
  • Hobbies and activities you enjoy

6. Reassess Your Goals

A 2016 study by US Bureau of labour statistics showed that women turning away from corporate jobs in favour of entrepreneurship, starting new businesses at a rate higher than men. Know that maybe the corporate schedule may not be for you, and THAT’s OK! Just like the eyeam founders, they needed a schedule that suited their needs and boundaries.

Take time to evaluate:

  • Are your current goals aligned with your values?
  • Do I love what Im doing?
  • Am I living my dream?
  • Which commitments truly matter?
  • What can you let go of?

7. Make Sustainable Changes

Focus on long-term solutions:

  • Implement gradual lifestyle changes
  • Create sustainable routines
  • Regular check-ins with yourself

Remember, addressing burnout isn't a one-time fix but a continuous journey of self-care and boundary-setting. By implementing these strategies, you can work towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.

8. Cycle Sync Your Work Flow

Bio-hack your hormones and work smarter, not harder. Think of each phase as a time that your body is designed to focus on a task, this is one of our biggest super powers as female entrepreneurs. We are so diverse, unique and adaptable that we can do ANYTHING. In 2014, A leadership consultancy firm Zenger Folkman showed that when women and men were rated on leadership competencies like taking initiative, high integrity, honesty, self-development, inspirational, collaborating and communication - women scored higher than men on 12 of them!

In another research book Athena Doctrine, they discovered that 66% of people agree that the world would be a better place if men thought like women.

Follicular Phase (7-10 days): Creativity and Planning

Estrogen’s effect improves your ability to solve problems, strategise, and plan.

Ovulatory (3-4 days): Communicate + Collaborate:

Physical energy is at it’s highest, making you feel outgoing and ready to socialise (great for long meetings, marketing messaging, filming). High Estrogen levels increase synaptic connections, boosting mental sharpness, creativity and communication skills according to the Journal of Comparative Neurology.

Luteal (10-14 days): Completion + Execution:

Your energy starts turning inwards and a desire to get things done kicks in. Ideal time to care of your to do list and detail driven tasks. The ratio of estrogen and progesterone will make you notice things you wouldn’t have noticed before. It will feel natural to slow down on networking.

Menstrual (3-7 days): Analysis and Intuition:

The communication between the right and left hemispheres of your brain is more powerful than at any another time. Your gut instinct will be higher, and you will receive clear messages during this phase. Check in, listen to those subtle messages. Evaluate with yourself with:

  • Did you feel energetic and happy about your work or overwhelmed and under appreciated?
  • Are your projects exciting your or making you feel uninspired?
  • Are you on the right path? And if not, what can steps can I take to get there?
  • Am I in my feelings because of low levels of hormones or is my creator trying to tell me to make a change in my life?

Try mapping out your cycle phases and slot in projects + meetings where you have the flexibility to do so!
